My interest in drawing and painting began at an early age. My parents and grandfather were all talented artists and I remember admiring their work when I was just seven or eight years old. In 1985, at the age of 20, I had my first black ink illustrations published in “The Birds of the Sheffield Area”. From the late eighties, popular English birding magazines and journals published my artwork on a frequent basis including; Birdwatch, Birdwatching, Birding World, British Birds, and The Sandgrouse (Ornithological Society of the Middle East).

In 1992, I was awarded second place in the “Bird Illustrator of the Year” presented by the coveted journal British Birds . My proudest moment in illustration was seeing one of my drawings published on the cover of British Birds in May 1993. Subsequently, I went to Israel to complete commissions on a set of ten national postage stamps “Songbirds of Israel” and the artwork for “Flying with the Birds” (Leshem and Bahat 1994).

Most recently, illustration projects have included contributions to the CD-Rom Guide to All the Birds of Europe (1996-98), published by Birdguides Ltd, and “Fifty species new to Israel, 1979-1998: their discovery and documentation, with tips on identification” (Shirihai 1999), published in The Sandgrouse (OSME).

Most of the artwork included in this section will relate to the birds of the West Palearctic region, but I’m hoping to build up my portfolio of North American bird species over the forthcoming years.
