This
free-flying adult Whooper Swan was discovered on the New Hampshire
coast by Eric Masterson. It occurred after a major north-easterly storm
at a time when a Northern Lapwing was found in Maryland, a Redwing in
Newfoundland and a Common Gull in Eastern Massachusetts. It was widely
regarded to have escaped, or originated from feral stock. I remained
less than convinced about this and I'm not sure if its origins
proven beyond doubt. The bird did remain on the coast for at least a
month, maybe longer and was also seen in the Hampton salt marshes accompanying Mute Swans.
