Mt. Tom State Reservation, Holyoke, Hampshire County, MA.
This Black Bear took me completely by surprise as I was watching a White-breasted Nuthatch nest at a picnic site at Mount Tom in Holyoke. It ran across the road in the middle of the afternoon about 50 metres from where I was standing. As I swung around, I was just able to grab this one blurred shot through binoculars in poor light as the bear ran between the trees and then disappeared. This was my first Black Bear in Massachusetts.
